Bitstorm's BAD BOY Xtreme gets you on the web. Pulls in and locks onto the weakest signals. How do we do this? By putting the highest power Wi-Fi device available right at and connected directly to the antenna, the antenna cable is eliminated. What this means is that all of the available power (36dBm or 4W EIRP) goes out the antenna for maximum range and reception. And the data goes to your computer via a digital (not analog) computer grade cable. And since it's digital, you can locate your Wi-Fi device in the best location up to 300 feet (90 meters) away. Winterfest At Bay Port Feb 26th!

This is our 20th year. We want to start off with a big celebration at Winterfest. Come out and join us for all of the traditional items; Sleigh rides, skating and lunch. In addition this year enjoy admission into The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre (A Parkbridge Advantage Partner) on us, Crystal McBrien & Chris Balsdon will be there from 9:30 am-11:30 am with hot chocolate and can give great suggestions on the best activities for you there.

Patti’s daughter Melanie will be doing face painting for kids, and kids at heart in the Bay Port office.

There will be a snowman set up for anyone who things they can Ring The Snowman with a hula hoop.

Brian from Backwater Tackle (Another Parkbridge Advantage Partner) will be cutting holes in the ice and giving us supplies for some Ice Fishing.

February 26th is also Andy’s 70th Birthday!! We Hope you will be here to help us celebrate that milestone with him.

New CPN700i & CPN1010i Chartplotters from Standard Horizon

Standard Horizon who makes cool chartplotters and VHF radios has a new lineup for 2011. Included in the lineup is a very interesting chartplotter the CPN series. The CPN700i and the CP1010i are 7 inch and 10 inch displays respectively and takes the chartplotter to a whole new level.

Chartplotter has been the name given to displays that show electronic charts with an integrated GPS which shows a boats position. This electronic navigation display has seen recent developments with more and more functions being added. Now these chartplotters are called multifunction displays.

MFDs as they are known can help you with navigation and then add Weather, AIS and radar overlays, display boat instruments and engine data. Although fairly expensive the single MFD display can cover many functions, so you only have one purchase and a single device takes up less space.

What makes these new Standard Horizon CPN displays interesting is the addition of Wi-Fi, sound and Bluetooth. Standard Horizon calls the CPN a multi media MFD. These features start to move the chartplotter closer to the Computer. When tied up to the dock you do not need the MFD for navigation or viewing instruments, so now with the internet capability the CPN lets you check E-mail, surf the web, check for weather and do research for the next trip.

Previously you would need a computer to do this. You can also position the display and watch a movie. Use the built in speakers or connect to the stereo.

INNOVATIONS: Touch Screen, WiFi / Bluetooth, Built-in speakers :

  1. WiFi; Surf internet, check and reply to emails.
  2. Bluetooth; Connect wirelessly to a keyboard, mouse or CALLER ID onscreen so you know when your cell phone is ringing while under way.
  3. Built-in Speakers; Listen to MP3 music or watch movies.
  4. Built-in charts; Preloaded with detailed maps for coastal navigation of the USA including, Alaska, Hawaii and Great Lakes, Canada, Bahamas, Caribbean, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Central American.

These displays will be available March/April 2011.

Heat Blower Lid - An innovation which turns the stove into a handy heater

At the Toronto boat show your might has seen Wallas boat stoves, ovens and heaters.

Well in the Wallas booth they had a unit that functions as a stove when the lid is lifted, but when the lid is closed, the blowers inside activate and blow the heat from the cooking top into the cabin.

This heating solution is usually enough in a boat with one large cabin and the
temperature can be adjusted from the stove’s control panel. The lid will never get so hot that you cannot put your hand on it. This means the stove can be installed under a seat and can still be operated while the boat is moving.

The Wallas heat blower lid solution also means there is no need for the complex and expensive installation of warm air ducting.

Bay Port installs a complete series of 12V/24V electric and hydraulic thrusters to suit your vessels application. Bow thrusters make docking easier, since they allow the captain to turn the vessel to port or starboard without using the main propulsion mechanism which requires some forward motion for turning. A stern thruster is of the same principle fitted at the stern indicated in example to the right.

We all have at one time rubbed a piling, scuffed a dock, or worse hit another boat while docking. Or that unexpected gust of wind as you approach the dock from a nice day out with family or friends creating a stressful experience. Sometimes those deck hands we have on board enviably drop a line creating stomach acid for the Captain. Then comes the costly gel-coat and glass repair bill to your boat, the other boat, and the construction for a dock.

That nice day can remain nice with a bow or stern thruster installed on your vessel by Bay Port. Being less dependent on others is always a comfort. A new sense of independence whether if you are with others or single handedly making a day of it. Bow and stern thrusters offer the help you need to be in full control when docking and departing regardless of wind conditions and currents. It will also give you full control allowing maneuvering around tight spots with extreme ease.

Marina Survives Tornado

As everyone has probably seen there was a severe storm in Midland. This weather damaged buildings on highway 12 and King St. but no damage was done at the marina. We have power here and we have checked, all vessels are okay.

A Canadian First - Advanced Electronics Installation Certified Technician

One of our top trained technicians, Chris Bedard, is one of the few Advanced Electronics Installation certified technicians out there and the first Canadian trained one. Like all our technicians, in between winter work Chris went back to school to ensure he has all the latest information and up-to-date technology to help our boaters. At the National Marine Electronics Association course Chris was Building on knowledge from the basic installation course he completed two years ago and earned his advanced installation certification, meaning he can now certify a system so our customers get full warranty. They're just starting to offer the course in Canada and Chris took Advantage of it successfully completing the certification.

Bennett Auto Trim Tab Retractor and Electronic Indicator Control

Have you ever damaged a trim tab when pulling your boat out of the water? For boats that are trailered or rack stored, retracting your trim tabs is important at the end of every use and can easily be forgotten. Bennett Marine has created the Auto Trim Tab Retractor (ATR) module so you don’t have to worry about the position of your trim tabs. The ATR automatically retracts your trim tabs when boat’s ignition is turned off. Easily installed under the instrument panel, the ATR connects to the trim tab control and engine ignition switch for both Bennett and Boat Leveler Insta-Trim trim tabs.
